MTN officially launches Mobile Money at 10 to mark ten years of Mobile Financial Services in Ghana. The launch was to celebrate a decade of financial innovation on the great achievement of mobile money which was first launched on 21st July 2009.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Eli Hini, General Manager of MTN Financial Services, said that “As a leader in the in the telecommunications space, beyond our vision ten years ago which was to be the leading telecommunications brand in emerging markets, we also had a desire to provide converged telecommunications solutions to our customers hence our venture into a grey area of using the mobile phone as a tool to undertake financial transaction.” During his speech, he thanked the government especially the Bank of Ghana for its support. “We will also like to celebrate government and regulators who believed in us and gave us the opportunity because in the beginning many people didn’t know what mobile money was but they believed and they gave us the opportunity.
